A Bluetooth Scheduling Algorithm using Channel State Information

Bluetooth is a promising wireless technology designed for personal ad hoc networks. This paper proposes a piconet scheduling algorithm based on the estimated channel state information. This policy is appropriate for wireless and mobile communications networks. The proposed algorithm is suitable for Bluetooth networks employing power class one devices, which can cover ranges up to 100 meters, allowing the formation of large area piconets and scatternets. The channel fading process is modeled using the Nakagami-m distribution. The channel quality estimation is based on the received signalto-noise ratio and on the Nakagami fading parameter m. These two metrics are used by the scheduling algorithm to define the best polling strategy. Simulation results demonstrate the algorithm performance for different traffic conditions.
